The City of Nelson

The beautiful City of Nelson in south-eastern British Columbia will be your home-from-home for the eleven weeks of the Snowpros programme. It is one of the coolest cities in BC, if not in Canada. This city is more than the sum of its individual attractions: the rolling Selkirk Mountains set against the western edge of the awesome Kootenay Lake offer scenery that will make your jaw drop. And, thanks to the mild climate here, you can ski without freezing your butt off in the winter and fish without sweating your butt off in the summer! Nelson really is a paradise for outdoor sports enthusiasts.

 

The town is beautiful: there are over three hundred and fifty designated residential and commercial heritage buildings in Nelson. Baker Street, the heart of the downtown core, is alive with a great spirit that has, unfortunately, slipped away from so many cities in Canada and elsewhere. The people are so friendly and make a point of supporting the local economy in Nelson. This ensures the blooming of unique businesses, such as Snowpros (!) here. We are not talking about huge character-less malls! You won't get bored shopping in the many one-of-a-kind businesses. Nelson takes the sophisticated approach of integrating art into the community, nearly every restaurant and public centre doubles as a gallery.

 

Nightlife in Nelson
 

When the lights go down, Nelson comes alive with some first-class live entertainment venues. It is a relatively small city with the benefit of a big city cultural nightlife all within walking distance from Snowpros accommodations. There are many fine restaurants, twenty or more pubs, bars and lounges and two banging nightclubs. Plenty for those looking for an evening of class and sophistication as much as it is ideal for party animals!
